Dr. Susanne Tönsmann

Candidate for the position of Treasurer

“I am applying for the position as treasurer because I would like to help steer ECSA through the interesting citizen science seas we currently sail. Together with the executive board, the board, and the headquarter, I would like to help ECSA thrive, paying attention to the association’s finances. In the past, I served as treasurer of the alumni association of the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation (an association under German law, like ECSA) for two years and am thus familiar with the role and its responsibilities.

I live in Zurich, Switzerland and work at the University of St.Gallen as a grants advisor and faculty development specialist. Prior to my current position, I was managing director of the Participatory Science Academy at the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich. I built up a network in the community especially in Switzerland, Germany and Austria during this time.

During my time as a member of the Board of Directors of ECSA (from 2020 until now), I spoke on behalf of ECSA before the Global Research Council, an organization dedicated to promoting collaboration among funding agencies worldwide in November 2023 in Bucharest. I was a member of the scientific conference committee of #ECSA2022 and #ECSA2024. I wear different professional and semi-professional hats and my ECSA-hat is a particularly beautiful one! I would be honored to continue the work for ECSA in the future as treasurer and serve the citizen science community in this way.”
