AirSense is an ERASMUS+ project which develops an innovative approach to STEAM education by blending citizen science with digital competences in a student-centered approach related to monitoring of air quality around schools. It aims to empower the educational community through the implementation of innovative pedagogical approaches, capacity building and professional development opportunities, leading to more resilient and empowered communities.
The main outcomes will be the AirSense network of air quality monitoring by schools and an active and expanding community of practice composed of upskilled and knowledgeable educators and students. The reference manual, learning scenarios and AirSense roadmap will ensure that anyone can replicate the process.
ECSA activities and milestones
ECSA co-coordinates the project together with NUCLIO, expanding its educational scope to citizen science where classrooms can lead research projects on air quality. ECSA leads the technical coordination, the educational content on citizen science and the communication and dissemination effort.
- September 2026-May 2027, selected schools will test AirSense air quality stations and several co-created education materials.
- July 2027, partners and teachers will meet in a Summer school to refine materials and get training.
- September 2027-May 2028, more schools will be invited to implement the AirSense methodology.
- June-November 2028, we will refine all materials to ensure teachers can use them after the end of the project.
